The Challenge
One of the main benefits Commercial Brokers Association (CBA) provides their members is access to continuing education, and their big event every year is their Annual Forum, which while well known did not always fill up. My job was to get the word out like never before.
As part of my communication strategy for the association I improved the use of electronic media by featuring the Forum on the front page of the website, expanding the use of social media, and greatly improving the use of email.
For email I set up a set schedule for Forum news, including an initial Save the Date, followed by reminders and updates in the weekly newsletter, and regular Forum-specific emails with all the information in one place. I also experimented with timing and subject lines to see how members responded best so that I could tweak the messaging along the way.
I not only got great response from our members, but the Forum sold out (which was a first!) far enough in advance that I was asked to stop advertising it three weeks ahead of time!
