The Challenge

When Covid hit, Privateer Press pivoted from concentrating on in-person wargames to role-playing games (to be played remotely), which is what the company was founded on 20 years before.

We rebooted the game, giving new details of the setting, and updating the system to adhere to the 5e rules of the world’s most popular role-playing game (which can't be named for legal reasons).

Since the Iron Kingdom RPG rules hadn't been published for a few years, we refreshed the core book for players familiar with the setting and people new to the game.

My design adheres to the 5e system that players are familiar with, and a rigid series of style sheets means everything is formatted as players expect, which means all of the books can be quickly laid out to meet compressed deadlines.

I also designed a new "5e" logo now used with all of our new RPG branding, and chose a typeface for the titles which could be styled quickly for each new use and used with all of our content for this product line.

After the highly successful initial Kickstarter campaign (nearly 600% funded), I have designed several 3-book KS campaigns every six months, with more on the way.
